Outlaw Porsche Velocity Ring

Bolt the pre-bent weldable tabs onto the velocity ring using the supplied M3 x 6mm long bolts with spring/wave washers, making sure to keep them straight.

 

Place the velocity ring on the air inlet making sure it's seated, and mark where the tab are on the fan shroud.  Remove the velocity ring, and make sure to remove any paint or powder coat where the tabs will be welded in place, after removing the velocity ring.

 

Protect the velocity ring with tape, I use plain painters tape, so that when the tabs are welded in place, weld spatter doesn't damage the surface of the velocity.  Make sure the seating surface of the velocity rin is left open.

 

Place the velocity ring on the air inlet of the fan shroud, making sure it's fully seated down.  Using something over the top of the velocity ring that is fairly heavy to weight it down, so you have free hands for welding the tabs.

 

Using a MIG welder at 19 amps and 140 inches per minute of wire speed, spot weld each tab in place using the supplied hole to place the weld bead.  A good tip is to use a screw driver or something long and stiff to hold the tab completely against the surface of the fan shroud while you weld the tab in place.

 

Once the tabs are welded, you can remove the tape and remove the velocity ring by removing the bolts holding it to the tabs.  Check you tabs are nicely welded in place, with good penetration on the back side of the fan shroud.  If you are satisfied, you can paint or powder coat either the area of the tabs, including the tabs, or the entire fan shroud if needed.

 

After paint or powder coat, you can simply place the velocity ring on the air inlet again, and secure with the supplied bolts and spring/wave washers.

 

Don't overtighten the bolts, just make sure that they are snug and the spring/wave washer is flat.
